Mango Sticky Rice Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup Thai Sweet Rice
1-2 ripe mangos, cut into bite-size pieces
4 Tbsp. palm sugar or brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt 1 can coconut milk water
Preparation: Soak the rice in 1 cup water for 20-30 minutes or up to 4 hours. Do not drain the rice. Simply add 3/4 cup (more) water, plus 1/4 can coconut milk, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1 Tbsp. Palm sugar. Stir this into the rice. Bring to a gentle boil, then partially cover with a lid (leaving some room for steam to escape). Reduce heat to medium-low Simmer in this way for 20 minutes, or until the coconut-water has been absorbed by the rice. Turn off the heat, but leave the pot on the burner with the lid on tight. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes. To make the sauce, warm (do not boil) the rest of the can of coconut milk over medium-low heat (5 minutes). Add 3 Tbsp. sugar, stirring to dissolve. Taste-test the sauce for sweetness, adding more sugar if desired. (note that it will taste less sweet when added to the rice). To assemble, place a few 'mounds' of sticky rice in each serving bowl. Top with slices of the mango, then pour sauce over. It should look like an English pudding with custard sauce, with the mounds of rice swimming in sauce.

Magical Fairies and Pirates Fifth Birthday Party
A little while back we celebrated Aurora's 5th Birthday Party. This is a party that I literally had been planning since the day after her fourth birthday. Since she always loves to make things interesting for me, this time she picked a Fairy and Pirate theme. She loves fairies but she also has many little boy friends at school and we didn't want to leave any of them out. We celebrated it at the Shoreline Interpretive Center in my town.
Aurora and her cousin Liam.
This party incorporated a lot of DIY (since I was at home on maternity leave) products from many awesome vendors, and items that I had won from giveaways. This party was also pretty special since I got to help out one of my favorite vendors and now friend Julie from Cakes and Kids. My party got to be in a commercial for AliBaba.com that featured their customer success stories!
The invitations and printables were custom designed by BellaGrey Designs
I had fondant toppers from Crumby Art for the cake, fondant cupcake toppers from Cakes and Kids and cookies and more fondant cupcake toppers from Kima's Confections.
They were all made to match the party printables.
Beautiful cookies from Kima's Konfections!
Cupcake toppers from Kima's Konfections (left) Fairy fondant wands from Crumby Art.
The cake from my local bakery got damaged on the trip to the party site but the fondant toppers from Crumby Art still made it look cute.
I had cake pops made by Sheri from Blondie's Treats
I also spent weeks working on DIY party favors.
Pirate Skull and Fairy Star Crayons
Chocolate covered oreos
Fairy Dust Necklaces.
Hand Stamped Muslin Treat Bags. I used my CAMEO to make stencils.
I made my own Marshmallow Pops and put them on straws from Cakes and Kids.
We even had flower arrangements that were designed by my cousin Pamela Goodman and I cut out Fairies and Pirate ships with my Cameo. (Yes, those are vintage blue mason jars)
My mother in law made her a costume for her party.
I got most of the party favors that I didn't make from Oriental Trading Company and I got the fairy wings from Halo Heaven
Arrrr Mateys!
I love the pirate and fairy rubber duckies from Oriental Trading
We had a trail of Fairy Wings going to the party. They had a lot of naturalist led activities, like netting in the creek and up close and personal view of the critters that live in the creek.
We had about 16 kids and 26 adults attend the party. Everyone had a great time. I am lucky to have worked with so many awesome vendors. In case you are wondering, I am already planning her 6th Birthday party and already have some supplies for it.
